Magma: Is deep down in the ground. It is a very hot substance which is liquid rock.

Lava: Is the same as Magma but above the earth's surface. When lava cools down it turns into hard rock

Active (volacno):

Dormant/Sleeping (volcano): one that has not erupted for many

   years but still has the potential to erupt.

   Exitinct (volcano): one that has not erupted for many years that    are not likely to erupt and are considered 'dead'

   Terphra-: volcanic ash
